Today, my mom and I are making homemade granola bars! She has been doing this for years, and since I am going back to school in a few days, I wanted to help make some for myself. By making our own, we know exactly what is in them. I will add the recipe at the end of this post, don't you worry! As Katie put in her first post, we are getting prepared for our Spring Break trip! I think having these homemade, healthy granola bars will be an awesome, quick breakfast for my busy college mornings. I am NOT good at getting up early, working out, and making a healthy, hearty breakfast, so anything that lets me sleep in just that little bit longer, I am so down for!

My favorite add-ins! |
Recipe for our Homemade Granola Bars!
- 4 1/2 cups rolled oats (We use 3 1/2 cups and 1 cup of flavored granola from Hy-Vee)
- 1 cup flour (I took out about 1/3 of the flour and added about 1/3 of peanut powder)
- 1 cup softened butter
- 3/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup of any type of add-in you would like!
- We used dried dates, cherry flavored dried cranberries, chocolate chips, sunflower seeds, and toasted coconut.
Instructions
- Lightly butter a 9x13 pan and preheat oven to 325 F
- Mix butter and honey in a large bowl (Kitchen Aid is where its at!)
- Add the rest of the ingredients except your add-ins and mix well
- Once that is combined, stir in the add-ins by hand
- Press the mixture into the pan, using slightly wet hands
- Bake at 325 F for 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown
- Cool for about ten minutes and cut
This is the link we get the base recipe from! As we did, you can change or add any ingredient!
Enjoy! <3
